Two Guys Talking Sports: Eagles Football

By Jake Snyder and Matt Curtis

Talk about a joke. Somehow as we sit here today, we still must acknowledge the embarrassing 4-8-1 Philadelphia Eagles who still have a shot at winning the even more awful NFC East (although now it is looking very unlikely) and, could be hosting a playoff game in January. This joke of a division has been historically bad so far through the 2020 campaign. No team within the division has a winning record and in games outside of the division the Eagles, Giants, Cowboys, and the Football Team are a combined 9-24-1.

Coming into the season the Eagles looked like the clear favorites. Little did anyone know the Eagles would need half the practice squad to fill in for injured players or the utter unraveling of quarterback Carson Wentz would take place. The Eagles looked to be easy playoff favorites. Boy were we wrong; from the beginning this team was awful. Nothing has seemed to go right. Whether that’s coaching, staying healthy or just performing on the field nothing has been getting done. Now we have a quarterback controversy to add on top of all this. It is a joke.

The one thing that the Eagles have managed to do is piss off Philly fans even more than usual. It seems like every pass Wentz throws three feet over the receiver or every questionable play call, Philly fans yell even louder. As many people know, Wentz is a big man of religion and he for sure should be thanking the big man upstairs for the absence of fans from the Linc. He would be getting booed out of town by now. You know there's a problem when your soon to be backup quarterback is also the tenth highest paid athlete in the world. He will now be the richest bench warmer in the history of mankind.

The Eagles will likely have another chance at a high draft pick this year (assuming they do not win the division). However, the Eagles have had some major mess ups when it comes to drafting in the past few years and it just pains fans even more when a player the Eagles missed out on has another huge game. Especially when Philly rookies continue to underperform. Funny enough, Carson Wentz is the only Pro Bowler the Eagles have drafted since 2013. 2013! And now he is sitting on the bench making more money than anyone else on the team.

D.K. Metcalf is currently leading the entire NFL right now in receiving yards. The receiver we took two years ago instead of him has made a bigger deal about how his last name is pronounced (its Ar-they-ga by the way, NOT Ar-say-ga), than performing on the field.

Justin Jefferson, the rookie receiver from LSU, was the clear pick for the Eagles in the first round this year, but instead we picked up Jalen Reagor from TCU. Let's check in on Jefferson. Oh yeah. He just became the first rookie wideout for the Vikings to surpass 1,000 yards in receiving by Week 12 since RANDY MOSS. And only the 4th receiver to do that ever. He also is one of only two rookies who will be attending the Pro Bowl this year. Smart one Howie.

Also, speaking of receivers. Remember that guy who it seemed as if the entire city of Philadelphia just wanted him to leave. Men in the streets were catching babies and claiming to have better hands than Nelson Agholor. Now when he finally does get let go by the Eagles, sure enough he now is a top receiver in the League and is exactly who someone like Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts would love to have. Love to see it.

Going into this last quarter of the season it just seems the Eagles can do nothing right, from top to bottom, and it appears it will only get worse from here.
