World Reopens and Welcomes Summer Fun

By Caitlyn Gosa

Now that restrictions are being lifted, everyone is excited to get out the house and fully enjoy summer again. While the world is still progressing to a complete reopening, a lot of exciting events can happen this year. Classic staples of summer are back, but with some safety guidelines. Here are a few upcoming events to help make the most of summer.

The class of 2021’s graduation is June 4, and this year it is going to be an in-person event. Each student is even allowed six additional guests, but masks will still be enforced throughout the ceremony. The graduation will also be live streamed for everyone not in attendance.

In Malvern many summer events are coming back. The Malvern Patch website uploads numerous events throughout the summer. Right now, camps, workshops, raffles, and runs are being posted. One event that stood out was free weekly morning yoga classes from June through August in the Malvern Borough. While most of these events are still trying to enforce social distancing and masks, it is great in comparison to staying home for another summer.

A huge addition to the summer is the return of concerts and festivals. In Philadelphia there are many to attend. The Manayunk Arts Festival is taking place June 26 and 27; mixed media arts will be on display. Another interesting festival is the Philadelphia Folk festival in late August with different performers and activities for three days. Unlike prior years, many events will now require advanced registration to help COVID-19 recovery efforts. A huge summer experience that was missing is concerts, but this year they see a return. At the Wells Fargo Center and BB&T Pavilion there are plenty of concerts from My Chemical Romance to the Dave Matthews Band.

Additionally, Philadelphia museums and zoos are opening back up. Unfortunately, a lot of them require timed tickets which limit the length of the stay. But the Franklin Institute, the Adventure Aquarium, the Penn Museum, and many more are welcoming back visitors for the summer. The Philadelphia Zoo is yet to reopen but is set for July 9 and tickets can be purchased starting in late June.

And lastly, travel-wise, there is going to be a surge of people traveling this summer. After being pent up at home for over a year everyone is ready to go on vacation again. Since most people are likely to only travel domestically, beaches and amusement parks will be hot destinations. The top spots this summer will be Orlando, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Summer still will not be the same, but it is exciting to have some fun events to look forward to after this crazy year. Hopefully everyone can find some fun options to consider from this list.
