Two Great Valley High School students Nandini Bhatt and Sahitya Suresh started making masks and offering online art classes to benefit essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both girls took it upon themselves to make sure their community stayed safe. They both want to make sure that per the CDC guidelines, every individual (healthy or not) wear layered "cloth face coverings" when leaving the house.
“We decided to create a new effort to supply our community members with masks and to collect donations for COVID-19 Treatment at Main Line Health. Over the last couple of weeks, we have made 500+ masks and collaborated with others also to generate a greater impact,” they said.
They have distributed these masks in the community in exchange for some donations. So far, they “have only passed” the $1,000 mark, but are looking to reach at least $7,500 as a short-term goal. The “only” is their words, but everyone knows every dollar counts. $1,000 mark is remarkable and admirable! Let us all help in helping them to reach their goal.
“We also understand the importance of protecting front-line and essential workers as they are supporting our society during the tough time,” the girls said.
Sahitya has additionally donated 30 masks to Nemours Hospital. Nandini and her sister, Reva, have personally donated 30 masks to Rite Aid Pharmacy. While partnering with GV alumni Joshita Varshney and her sister Shivika, Nandini and Reva have donated 50 masks for a Navy Shipment and 130 masks to CHOP.
In addition to the masks, the girls continue to spread their love for art during this social distancing period. So together, they started hosting art classes online.
“We have been working with various mediums and with kids of all ages via Zoom. We are now starting to charge $10 per family to attend our lesson every Thursday. All the money made will be given to COVID-19 Treatment at Main Line Health,” they said.
So far, they have hosted two classes and are looking to collect over $2,500, as another short term goal.
They would really appreciate any donation one could make to their cause and efforts to spread our message.
“We would love to supply you with masks and have you attend our classes!”
