The Social Medias of the school

By Jackson Wolff

Many students Many students are aware of Great Valley’s library Instagram account, and with over 2100 followers, and rapidly approaching 40,000 TikTok followers, librarian Kelsey Bogan understands how social media can play a part in student life. Other teachers, coaches and club advisers are also making use of these various platforms.

On Miss Bogan’s socials the content is filled with book recommendations, new books and activities coming to the library, and also funny videos on all things library. Recently, she recommended The Body by Stephen King for those seeking a good thriller novel. To check out Miss Bogan’s content go to @gvhslibrary on Instagram and TikTok.

For the most up to date sports news, information and results, the Great Valley Athletics page is the place to go. Not only do they post results of games, but they also recognize athletes and teams who are striving in their sports and putting the great in Great Valley. The account also helps student-athletes by posting information on board meetings and Ches-Mont decisions such as the delay in winter sports and when they will resume. Students can get their sports fill at @greatvalleyathletics on Instagram.

The High School’s fan base, the Goon Squad, has an Instagram with over 1,000 Patriot supporters. The student-run page,@gvgoonsquad, posts game results, spirit days, and gives fans access to live-stream sports games they couldn’t attend this year.

Also, many of the high school clubs are making use of social media. The club, breaking the silence on injustice, is now using their page to advocate ideas for their goals of the ending of silence on racism in our community. The club’s page, @gvhsbreakingsilenceoninjustice on Instagram, is very active and offers positive and helpful ways to make the world a better place for everyone.

Another stand out club on Instagram is the GV Best Buddies Club, @gvbuddies on Instagram. There you will find posts about club meetings, activities, fundraisers and information. Although virtual learning has slowed down some of the group’s activities, the founders make every effort to keep this very important club connected.

“Our Best Buddies Instagram has become a platform not only to keep in touch with our members and our club, but for the spreading of information. We are dedicated as a club to spreading kindness and we use social media to do so, ” said co-founder, junior Nichole Kim.

Many clubs do not see maintaining their pages as all hard work; many have lots of fun. The library’s video on librarian outfit stereotypes, has been liked by thousands. As for Nichole, she believes it’s a great way to get connected, and see other Best Buddies chapters and organizations that support the same ideas.

Best Buddies is always looking for new members, and you can contact Ms. Smyth or Ms. Marabella for more information.

Instagram has become a mainstay of high schooler’s lives, and many clubs, organizations and sports teams have used the platform for good. The activity on Instagram has allowed students to get information they need faster and easier. As more clubs and sports teams join the movement, Great Valley’s social media presence continues to strengthen, building a healthy and connected community in times when being connected can be very hard.
